Describe the Issue

The systray icon is missing when sunshine is installed with brew.

The issue does not occur while using the sunshine-beta rpm from the copr, so it should be related to some issue with the brew package.

Thanks for the report. I'm working on migrating the tray away from appindicator so this will be resolved by LizardByte/Sunshine#4907

My guess is homebrew changes where the icons files are installed to, and it's not going to the proper location defined by OS location. Are you using the bottle version or are you having brew compile Sunshine or you? If using the bottle, does the issue go away if you force brew to not use the bottle?

I am using the bottle version. Compiling from source fails with the logs here

A similar scenario also causes the post_install to not complete correctly (but looking at the post_install section of the formula, it is just a print for a warning?)

Additionally, is there a reason for disabling the postinst script for rpm-ostree environments? There isn't anything immediately obvious that wouldn't work on rpm-ostree environments.
It'd be helpful to have the script run automatically but I saw something about no sudo in brew, so ideally on Bazzite, we could make a helper to automatically run it too.

Not weird if using the bottle. Makes perfect sense. The icon install path is dependent on the distro, and we build the bottle on Ubuntu, so probably won't really work on non debian systems. Brew also probably screws with the install path, so the icons probably don't even end up in the proper location. But as I mentioned previously, it will be resolved by LizardByte/Sunshine#4907 because it will no longer depend on the system icon/theme path.

It's ummutable, can't do setcap how we do for other environments. This is handled in another way for rpm-ostree, but requires using our copr repos.

Gotcha on the icon part.

Currently kms capture with brew sunshine on Bazzite is done(or rather will be, as it is in testing) via a helper to run sudo setcap cap_sys_admin+p "$(readlink -f "$sunshine_bin")", which doesn't seem very different from either the postin script or %caps section in the specfile from copr. Either way, I'll open a PR on the main sunshine repo to discuss this in depth later on.

The main issue here is that post_install doesn't seem to complete successfully after the initial installation, but I am unsure why that is. I have tried completely emptying out the contents of the post_install method, but the situation does not change - where the postinstall in itself works normally, but "did not complete successfully" when ran with the install/reinstall, or while ran when sunshine is installed. May I assume this is something to do with brew and not the sunshine formula?

The def post_install section is standard to brew, so I think if it's not running that is something on brew's side.

Maybe something in the environment or args has disallowed brew from running the post install? It can be disabled, and post install can also run as a separate command altogether.
