Github actions are not running: 'Waiting for status to be reported'

Please remove the invalid/outdated status check in the protected branch setting of the repository settings.

Well, yes, they are the branch protection rules, but I do want those enforced. They just weren't starting, which is probably my own fault in Actions configuration (they're enabled on branches, but probably not PRs.)

I'm running into the same problem here. It usually happens because checks are marked as "required" although they don't exist anymore (under that name).
