The preprocessor macros à la HAVE_HDF5 which used to be inherited from config.log via oct.h, are not available anymore. This is a dirty hack, to find out if octave was compiled with HDF5 or not.
fixed makefile because it didn't compile and fixed some function calls because interfaces have changed

Probably not a most elegant way, but it works :)
It checks datatype of dataset, and if it is compound with two double precision fields, then it assumes it to be complex and reads to ComplexNDArray.
